Mikel and Drogba Lead Chelsea’s Pursuit to Sign Osimhen

Former Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi has emphatically expressed his determination to help fellow Nigerian Victor Osimhen join the London club, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

In a video shared on X, the ex-Super Eagles captain revealed that another Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba, has also been in touch with the Napoli striker as they both aim to persuade him to make the move to Stamford Bridge.

Osimhen’s future continues to be the focus of widespread online speculation as the summer transfer window nears its close. The striker has requested to leave Napoli and is rumored to be involved in a potential transfer to Chelsea, which could include Romelu Lukaku heading in the opposite direction.

Chelsea has already secured several signings this summer, including Pedro Neto, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Marc Guiu, and Filip Jorgensen. However, the club seems poised to keep spending, with the 25-year-old striker high on their priority list to lead their attack for the 2024/25 season.

On Thursday, the command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, raised awareness through a statement posted on her X account.

Odutola mentioned that the command had received multiple reports from residents, including one where a victim was robbed of N700,000 at gunpoint after entering a vehicle in Kajola on Wednesday.

Cautioning traders and business owners against carrying large sums of cash, the spokesperson urged commuters to record and send video footage to the police if they feel uncertain about a particular vehicle.

SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the spokesperson for the state police command, shared this information on Facebook on Wednesday, noting that the suspects were apprehended with the assistance of local residents.

With only a few weeks remaining before the transfer window closes, Mikel disclosed his intention to assist the club in securing their top target, whom he felt would make an immediate impact in the English Premier League.

“We want somebody who can finish, score goals, the tap-ins. Someone like Erling Haaland,” Mikel said.

“That’s something Victor Osimhen will bring to Chelsea. I hope that Chelsea fans will finally see him come to the club. I’ll make sure I send him those text messages and calls, making sure Chelsea is his top priority! But it seems like he loves the club and wants to come to Chelsea.

“I’m sure he has all the big clubs wanting to sign him. I think if we can secure his signature, it would be fantastic for the club. He’s somebody who will get us goals, and that’s something that we need right now.

“A fantastic guy, a fantastic human being, and I really do hope he comes to the club, and I’ll try my best to make sure that happens. Didier is also speaking to him, sharing his own ideas and what the club means to us. We all want to see Victor come to the club.”

Victor Osimhen has become one of the most in-demand forwards in Europe, attracting interest from clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, and Liverpool after several standout seasons with Napoli.

Nevertheless, his substantial €130 million price tag has proven to be a major obstacle, causing PSG and other potential buyers to withdraw, leaving Chelsea as the only European team still pursuing him.
