Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, was defeated by the United States (USA) in the quarter-finals of the Paris Olympic Games.
D’Tigress fell 74-88 to the USA, resulting in their elimination from medal contention at the Olympics.
Nigeria, known for their physical style of play, appeared unfazed by the powerful American team as they exchanged scores in the opening minutes.

A’Ja Wilson, a two-time WNBA MVP, led the US team with 20 points and 11 rebounds, aiming to surpass the US men’s basketball team’s record for the most consecutive Olympic golds, set from 1936-68.
Jackie Young contributed 15 points, and Breanna Stewart, another two-time WNBA MVP, added 13 points.
The US women’s team dominated three quarters to advance to the Olympic semi-finals, whereas D’Tigress secured a 26-12 victory in the final quarter.
The Nigerian team showed their strength in the fourth quarter, pushing the US women’s team on the defensive.
The Nigerian women’s team made history by defeating the fifth-ranked Canadian team to reach the quarter-finals, an accomplishment no African team has ever achieved in an Olympic tournament.
The US will compete against Australia in the semi-finals on Friday after the Opals defeated Serbia 85-67.
