Victor Osimhen will reportedly undergo medical tests today over the injury he sustained while playing for Galatasaray on Saturday.
Osimhen finally opened his goal account for Galatasaray in a Turkish Super Lig game against Kasimpasa with the Nigerian striker netting a brace on Saturday evening.
After three assists in his opening three games, Osimhen took it a notch higher by netting twice as Galatasaray and Kasimpasa played out a 3-3 draw at the Rams Global Stadyumu.
Osimhen opened his account in the 20th minute when his attempted control from a cross fooled a committed goalkeeper and the Super Eagles striker watched the ball cross the line.
If the first was ingenious, the second goal eight minutes later reeked of pure class. Osimhen latched on to a deep cross and swiveled despite the presence of a defender on him.
The former Lille striker thereafter lashed a volley into the roof of the net for 2-0 to his club before coming off for Dries Mertens in the 46th minute as a result of an injury.
He, however, handed Super Eagles’ interim manager, Augustine Eguavoen a huge fitness boost ahead of the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Libya in October.
The striker gave Eguavoen the kind of news the manager was waiting to hear after the former declared that he doesn’t have a serious injury but only felt a little discomfort.
Osimhen in his post-match comments said: “I do not have a serious injury. I felt a little discomfort. I thought I should tell my coach. If I reduced the team, it would be bad.
“I did not want my other friends’ performance to decrease. I told Mauro and the coach. That is why I left the game.”
In an update on Osimhen, Nigerian radio broadcaster, Onyebuchi Onokala known as Buchi Laba said the Super Eagles striker will undergo medical tests today, Sunday, September 29, 2024.
“He felt a slight pain when he was pushed outside the pitch,” Buchi Laba said in a post he shared on his official X account on Saturday night.
“He will be evaluated on Sunday. If there is lesion, he will rest for three days and if not, he will be out for latest two weeks.
“However, he currently squats and feels no pain but after evaluation on Sunday, I will update immediately.”
