Chukwueze sustains hamstring injury, to return to Milan

Samuel Chukwueze sustained a hamstring injury on Friday in the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Libya and will now return to AC Milan for assessment.

Sports media, Soar Super Eagles disclosed this on Sunday night in a post it shared on its official X account and wished Chukwueze a speedy recovery.

Chukwueze was in action when the Super Eagles defeated Libya 1-0 in their third match of the 2025 AFCON qualification series on Friday evening but the team had to sweat to secure the victory.

Fisayo Ayodele-Bashiru broke the deadlock for Nigeria at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, after coming off the bench in the 74th minute, replacing Alex Iwobi.

While Nigeria were on the front foot for most of the game, they struggled to find the back of the net.

The referee also made some wrong decisions, waving off a clear penalty in the first half and wrongly disallowing Ademola Lookman’s goal in the second half.

The Super Eagles have now maintained the top position on the Group D table with seven points from three matches, having won twice and drawn once.

Chukwueze, meanwhile, replaced Frank Onyeka in the 62nd minute but he was guilty of wasting some good goalscoring chances.

The Milan attacker could actually have scored a brace against the Libyans had he worn his scoring boots in Uyo.
