The New England Revolution Head Coach, Caleb Porter has said that Alhassan Yusuf has all the qualities the club needs.
Porter said this on Monday after the Major League Soccer (MLS) club landed Yusuf from Royal Antwerp of Belgium.
Revolution in a statement on their website said they signed the Nigerian central midfielder for an undisclosed fee.
Coach Porter, speaking in an interview with the club’s official website said the 24-year-old has all the qualities they need in their double pivots.
“With his international and Champions League experience, I expect Alhassan Yusuf to quickly establish himself as an elite midfielder in Major League Soccer,” Porter said.
“Yusuf is an athletic, box-to-box central midfielder that has all the qualities we look for in our double pivots.
“He is very complete on both sides of the ball and will bring ball winning defensively and verticality to our attack.
“Alhassan Yusuf is another addition who is in the prime of his career and has championship pedigree.”
Yusuf has seven international caps for the Super Eagles, all coming this year after his debut in January 2024 in a friendly against Guinea.
He went on to play three games in the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) earlier this year, starting once including a substitute appearance in the final as Nigeria finished as runners up.
Most recently, Yusuf appeared twice in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic.
Yusuf joins the Revolution after three years in the Belgian topflight with Royal Antwerp, where he won three trophies.
The trophies the Super Eagles midfielder won include the 2022-23 Belgian Pro League championship and 2022-23 Belgian Cup.
He also emerged as the club’s Player of the Month in August 2022 after churning out impressive performances.
In 2023-24, he played in all six UEFA Champions League games for Antwerp, scoring in his first start against FC Porto and adding an assist against Barcelona.
He has earned seven additional appearances in UEFA Europa League qualifying and tournament action.
The midfielder finishes his Antwerp career with 90 league appearances in the Jupiler Pro League and Champions’ Playoffs.
