RSIEC debunks alleged postponement of Rivers LG elections

RSIEC has debunked the alleged postponement of the Local Government (LG) elections in Rivers State

The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has debunked the alleged postponement of the Local Government (LG) elections.

A report had gone viral on social media, suggesting that RSIEC Chairman, Justice Adolphus Enebeli, had announced the postponement of the October 5, 2024 elections.

RSIEC on Wednesday, however, issued a statement signed by Chairman/Chief Electoral Commissioner, Enebeli to debunk the report.

“The attention of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission has been drawn to a spurious article making the round, in the social media space purporting the Chairman of RSIEC as saying that Rivers State Local Government Election scheduled for October 5, 2024, will be postponed until the court order is lifted,” the statwm said.

“This is to certify that the Chairman of RSIEC, Hon. Justice. Adolphus Enebelli, DSSRS. (Rtd) never issued/uttered any such statement at any time.

“The general public is therefore hereby advised to dismiss and discountenance the article in its entirety as same is false, baseless and unfounded.”

For the avoidance of doubt, RSIEC declared that the Rivers State 2024 Local Government Election TimeTable is still on course and the 5 October, 2024 election day is sacrosanct.
