The Police has activated the post-election security strategy in Edo State

The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has activated the post-election security strategy in Edo State.

The spokesman of the Nigeria Police, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, announced the activation in a post on X on Sunday night following the declaration of the winner of the Edo State governorship election.

“As the Edo 2024 governorship election gradually winds to an end, the DIG in-charge of the elections, DIG Frank Mba has activated the post-election security strategy of the Force,” Adejobi said.

“This includes but not limited to a show of force exercise designed to boost the confidence of citizens and to reassure them of the readiness of the Force to respond appropriately to any possible threat to public safety and security in the state.

“In line with the post-election security strategy, the DIG has ordered enhanced deployment in and around the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) facilities, key stakeholders involved in the election and other critical infrastructure within Edo State.”

Meanwhile, the Police has called on citizens to remain peaceful and law abiding while going about their endeavours.

The Force has, however, warned against any conduct by any individual or group capable of disrupting the existing peace in the state.

Adejobi also noted that the Police and the security forces are prepared than ever before to ensure continuous peace in Edo State.

The Police, meanwhile, restricted movements from 6am to 6pm on Saturday in the state due to the governorship election.
