The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has approved the immediate implementation of the new ₦70,000 minimum wage for all administrative staff under the FCT Administration (FCTA).
This was disclosed in a statement signed by Anthony Odeh, the Press Secretary to the Head of the Civil Service of the FCT, and made available to journalists on Tuesday.
Recall that in May 2024, President Bola Tinubu signed the new Minimum Wage Bill into law, setting N70,000 as the minimum wage for workers after months of negotiation with organised labour.
According to the statement, Wike approved the payment of the minimum wage on Monday, November 18, 2024, “to ameliorate the plight of workers under the employ of the Federal Capital Territory Administration.”
The Acting Head of the Civil Service of the FCT, Mrs. Grace Adayilo, revealed that the minister also approved the payment of three months’ arrears for all staff of the administration, effective from November 2024.
“This gesture will further motivate the entire administration staff to support the minister in continuing to deliver on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” Adayilo said.
The statement noted that this move reflects the minister’s commitment to the welfare and well-being of FCT staff.
