Team Lagos Dominates NYG with Multiple Gold Medals

Team Lagos swimmers Chioma Kanu, Sokunbi Tobi, and Ezumba Chidelu delivered impressive performances at the 2024 National Youth Games, winning multiple medals in the swimming events.

Kanu secured a gold medal in the 50m freestyle girls’ event, while her teammate Tise also clinched gold in the 200m individual medley boys’ event. Chidelu earned a silver medal in the 100m boys’ event.

Their outstanding efforts brought the swimming medal tally for Team Lagos to four, with the aquatic events set to conclude on Sunday at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba.

In addition to the swimming achievements, Sunday Emmanuel added a bronze medal in weightlifting with a total lift of 111 kg in the 49 kg category.

Emmanuel lifted 50 kg in the snatch and 61 kg in the clean and jerk. He expressed gratitude to God and the Lagos State Government for the opportunity to compete at the National Youth Games.

Emmanuel credited his mother, who is a coach, and the success of renowned athletes like African and Commonwealth Champion Adijat Olarinoye as his inspiration in weightlifting.Meanwhile, in football, the Lagos female team defeated hosts Delta 2-0 at St.

Patrick’s College in Asaba, with goals from Kashimawo Temilola and Kemi Adegbuyi.

The victory continued their strong form as they aim to defend their title in the football event.Additionally, the Lagos volleyball team triumphed over Bauchi, winning 2-0 (25-20, 25-20).

Team Lagos capped off the day with another victory in table tennis as Aisha Rabiu and Faisat Musbau claimed gold in the girls’ doubles final, defeating their Delta State counterparts on Saturday.
