The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate in the 2019 and 2023 elections, upon his return to Nigeria.
Sowore, who is also the Convener of the RevolutionNow movement, was apprehended on Sunday morning at Murtala Muhammad International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos State.
Sowore’s flight departed Washington Dulles International Airport at 6:14 EDT and arrived in Lagos around 9:43 WAT.
This arrest follows reports from early September indicating that the DSS had instructed airport security and immigration officials to intercept and detain Sowore.
The directive, reportedly issued by newly appointed DSS Director-General Adeola Ajayi, is linked to Sowore’s involvement in the recent 10-day #EndBadGovernance protests.
