Summit University Offa has disassociated itself from a former student allegedly involved in the recent criminal activity in which a 21-year-old student of Kwara State College of Health Technology, Miss Awesu Mojisola, was killed for ritual.
The varsity, in a statement copied to The Guardian Newspaper yesterday, said: “The suspect linked to the death of the 21-year-old female student is not our student.”
The university explained that the suspect, Adebayo Happiness, had been expelled, “and he has no current affiliation with us,” the statement clarified.
According to the statement issued in Ilorin, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the school, Atoyebi Olagunju, revealed that the former student was dismissed for theft, a serious violation of both the university’s rules and the Matriculation Oath.
He said: “The dismissal was followed by the immediate removal of the student’s belongings from the university hostel by his parents, marking the end of his association with Summit University.
“The management of Summit University emphasised that it was not aware of any criminal activities connected to the individual prior to his expulsion.”
The university also strongly denied any involvement in or endorsement of any event, including night parties, that could be linked to the criminal case under investigation, the school explained.
Summit University said that since its inception, it has prided itself on upholding high standards of moral discipline, academic excellence, and the cultivation of entrepreneurial skills.
Summit University commended the Kwara State Police Command for its swift and professional action in apprehending the suspects involved in the case, pledging support for a thorough and impartial investigation.
The institution also extended its deepest sympathy to the family of the deceased, offering prayers for strength and comfort during this tragic time.
