Rivers Crisis: APC declares intention to wrestle power from PDP

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has confidently declared its intention to take full control of Rivers State.

APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, shared this ambitious goal during an event in Abuja on Thursday. Ganduje outlined the party’s plans to rebuild and strengthen its presence in Rivers, establishing a foundation that will allow the APC to gain a strong foothold in the state.

This announcement came as Dawari Ibietela George, the 2023 governorship candidate of the Action Alliance (AA), officially rejoined the APC. Ganduje expressed optimism about George’s return, seeing it as an important step toward enhancing the party’s influence in Rivers. He described George as a valuable asset, commending his political experience and strategic insight.

Ganduje assured George of his full integration within the party, emphasizing that a solid structure would be built to support both him and other returning members, aiming to unify and expand the party in Rivers State.

“We are committed to making Rivers State completely APC,” Ganduje stated, welcoming George and other new members as equals within the party.

He emphasized the APC’s broader mission to uphold democratic principles and inclusivity in Nigeria, reiterating the party’s commitment to embracing a range of perspectives while promoting fairness.

This renewed focus on Rivers State also comes amid ongoing tensions between current Governor Sim Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who now serves as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister under the APC-led government.

The two political heavyweights are reportedly locked in a power struggle over the control of the APC structure within Rivers.

Amid these dynamics, Ganduje’s comments suggest a determined push to unify the party’s base in Rivers and position it as a driving force within the state and nationally.

In Ganduje’s view, building a robust APC chapter in Rivers will provide a stronger platform to serve the interests of the people in the state and further the party’s national objectives.

He stressed that APC’s vision extends beyond local politics, aiming to widen democratic participation across the country by creating an inclusive and representative structure that welcomes diverse voices.

The APC’s strategy for Rivers reflects a renewed commitment to expanding its influence, aligning with the party’s broader goals to promote democracy and foster development across Nigeria.
