Gunmen have kidnapped Reverend Father Christian Ike, a priest of the Catholic Church based in Anambra State.
The abduction took place on Sunday along Amagu Junction in the Ndiokpaleke area of Ajali community, Orumba North Local Government Area.
Eyewitnesses recounted that Father Ike was returning from an early morning Mass at St. Michael Catholic Church with two companions when their vehicle was ambushed by armed men in three vehicles.
While the other two managed to escape, the assailants forcibly took the priest and some personal belongings.
This latest abduction marks the second such incident in two months. Previously, Reverend Father Basil Gbuzuo was kidnapped near Onitsha on May 15 by unknown gunmen and was released weeks later after an undisclosed ransom was paid.
Confirming the incident, Anambra State police spokesman SP Tochukwu Ikenga stated that the police have deployed intelligence and operational assets to rescue Father Ike unharmed. #
He emphasised that efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure the priest’s safe return. Further updates will be provided as the situation unfolds.
