Police kill two suspected kidnappers, rescue victim in Delta

Spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, Bright Edafe, who confirmed the incident, yesterday, said the police acted on intelligence.

He said the suspects abducted the brother of a 23-year-old man (name withheld) and seized a black-coloured GLK 350 Benz SUV, along Jakpa road.

According to him, the owner of the vehicle left his brother in the vehicle and went about other activities. “While at it, he was alerted that the vehicle was attacked by three armed men who took the car, along with his brother, and drove off to an unknown destination.

“Upon receipt of this information, the Commissioner of Police, Wale Abass, directed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Aliyu Shaba, to mobilise operatives and ensure the victim was rescued, and the suspects arrested and brought to book.”

Edafe said the DPO complied with the directive and led the team, which successfully rescued the victim unhurt and recovered the vehicle and three firearms, including two single-barreled and one double-barreled guns and two expended cartridges.

He assured the injured suspect who escaped into the bush would be arrested.

Abass lauded officers and men of the command for their efforts in ensuring the year 2023 was a success security-wise. He reminded them that the reward for hard work is more work; hence they needed to up their strategies in the fight against crime and criminality. He also warned that the police will not hesitate to deal with anyone planning to disrupt existing peace in the state.
