Angry women from Bokkos local government in Plateau State burned down the residence of the community’s traditional ruler.
In a video that surfaced online on Thursday, January 5, 2024, the burning of the traditional ruler’s house was in protest over the arrest of some community members.
It was alleged that the arrested individuals are involved in the recent spate of killings in Plateau, where over 150 people lost their lives.
The women, expressing their anger over the arrests, extended their protest to the traditional ruler’s residence and administrative office, alleging his involvement and branding him a sellout.
It was gathered that the destructive act began at the police station and escalated to burning down the district head’s property.
Meanwhile, eight suspects in connection with the killings on Christmas Eve have been arrested by security operatives.
Plateau Police spokesperson, Alfred Alabo, said on Thursday that the suspects were arrested at different locations.
“Concerning the Inspector General of Police’s deployment, we have been getting tremendous success from that process,” Alabo said.
“It would also interest you to know that seven persons, in fact as of the last count, there are now eight of them under investigation in our custody and they have been moved to the state CID where the AIG Zone 4 and the commissioner of police are overseeing the affairs of the operation and also the investigation.”
