PDP denounces Dino Melaye suspension, labels letter as fake

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chapter in Ijumu has dismissed the reported suspension of Senator Dino Melaye, calling it a forgery that will not hold.

In a communiqué issued by the PDP Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Council, Hon. Olorunmaiye Olabode, the suspension was labeled as rushed and inaccurate, with inconsistencies in the date and day.

Olabode affirmed the party’s adherence to its constitution and stated that no legitimate Ward Ad hoc Congress took place in Ijumu LGA on July 27, 2024.

He also dismissed claims of an LGA Congress electing a National Delegate, as well as the purported State Congress held in Lokoja on August 31, 2024, labeling it an illegal and failed process.

The communiqué further noted that external forces outside Ijumu were attempting to destabilize the party by targeting Melaye, the leader of the PDP in Kogi State, known for his advocacy for the people.

The PDP Ijumu chapter strongly rejected the supposed letter of suspension, describing it as a poorly executed forgery.

They emphasized that any action taken against a prominent party member like Melaye would not be handled in such a manner, especially considering his significant contributions to the party.

The statement challenged critics to point out any anti-party activities by Melaye, who has consistently supported the PDP, including covering party expenses at the state level, funding membership card distribution, and providing financial support.

The PDP Ijumu chapter urged party members to disregard the suspension and reaffirmed their loyalty to Melaye, condemning the violation of party procedures in the handling of the issue.

This development follows an earlier announcement by the PDP Ward Executive Committee in Ayetoro/Iluagba Ward 1, which claimed to have suspended Melaye over alleged anti-party activities. However, the Ijumu chapter of the PDP firmly refutes this action.
