On Wednesday, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke announced that his administration’s goal is to generate approximately one million direct and indirect employment opportunities through the state government’s revamped free trade zone initiative.
Adeleke made this statement during the opening of the four-day Osun State Industrial Investment Summit, which took place at the main campus of Osun State University in Osogbo.
Represented by his Deputy, Mr. Kola Adewusi, the governor also revealed that his administration is striving to position Osun among the top 10 states in the nation for Internally Generated Revenue.
He urged investors, industrialists, and tourists, especially those living abroad, to partner with the government to accelerate industrial development in the state.
He stated, “We want to accelerate the pace of industrialization because we are on a mission and that is why we have embarked on several initiatives across different sectors of the Osun economy.
“The revitalization of the Free Trade Zone which is planned to provide over 1,000,000 direct and indirect jobs for the people.
“My administration’s mission is to make Osun the preferred destination for investment, business, and tourism in the South West.”
He encouraged attendees to make the most of the summit in shaping the state’s development plans, aiming to build enduring partnerships for shared success.
Earlier, Mr. Bunmi Jenyo, the Osun State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, highlighted that the summit has created a venue for opportunities and strategic connections among stakeholders in the Osun industrial sector to foster collaboration and investments.
He noted that the Adeleke administration has been intentional in driving the state’s economic growth, enhancing human resources, generating wealth, and creating job opportunities.
