Obaseki Blames FG for Hardship

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, stated on Sunday that the country’s difficulties are due to the Federal Government’s policies.

Meanwhile, hunger protesters in Edo State conducted a church service on the street.

In a Sunday statement, Obaseki mentioned that his administration had launched several initiatives aimed at alleviating the suffering of Edo’s residents caused by various Federal Government policies.

Obaseki highlighted some of these initiatives, which include increasing the minimum wage for workers to N70,000 to enhance their purchasing power, launching a free transport scheme on Edo City Transport Service routes, expanding free Wi-Fi services in public areas to support telecommuting, and starting a state-wide feeding program for the vulnerable in collaboration with Christian and Muslim institutions, among other measures.

The PUNCH reports that certain demonstrators in the ongoing nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests persisted on Sunday, conducting a church service on the road as part of the day’s activities in the state.

Several Civil Society Organizations had withdrawn from the protest on Saturday, choosing to await President Bola Tinubu’s nationwide address on Sunday morning before determining their next steps.

At the Agho Junction on Ekehuan Road, where the church service took place, the protesters sang, danced, praised God, and called for an end to bad governance.

During the church service, the protesters blocked the road, preventing vehicle movement.

Convoys of soldiers were seen patrolling the main roads in the state, aiming to clear any barricades set up by the protesters.

The Coordinator of the Edo State Civil Society Organisation, Agho Omobude, stated that the protest, which had lasted for ten days, would continue since the President did not address the protesters’ demands.
