The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) board has clarified that no financial transaction occurred in its decision to replace Beyond Limits Football Academy with Heartland FC in the topflight league for the 2024/25 season.
Beyond Limits, the Nigeria National League (NNL) champions, were initially promoted to the NPFL but were denied participation due to a breach of Rule B11.4, which prohibits dual ownership between two clubs competing in the same league.
The club’s ownership is also linked to Remo Stars, an existing NPFL club. The NPFL board stated that Heartland FC, a relegated club from the previous season, met the requirements and expressed interest in filling the vacancy, aligning with Rule A5.2.
The board emphasized that its decision was made in the best interest of the league and its stakeholders, without any slot-buying transaction, which is prohibited under NPFL rules.Beyond Limits Football Academy accepted the decision and announced that they will participate in the Nigeria National League for the 2024/25 season.
Heartland FC, meanwhile, has been preparing for the new season and will face Enyimba in their opening match at home, pending approval of the Dan Anyim Stadium to host their games.
The NPFL board reaffirmed its commitment to upholding a fair and competitive league, exercising its discretion to ensure decisions are made in the best interest of the league and its stakeholders.
