The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted a mix of sunshine and dust haze across the country from Wednesday to Friday.
This prediction was detailed in NiMet’s weather outlook released on Tuesday in Abuja.For Wednesday, moderate dust haze is anticipated in the northern region, reducing horizontal visibility to between 2km and 5km.
States such as Zamfara, Katsina, Kano, Sokoto, Kebbi, Jigawa, and Kaduna will experience these conditions. Slight dust haze is expected to prevail in other parts of the northern region.
The forecast indicates that the North Central region will experience slight dust haze during this period.In the southern region, a cloudy atmosphere will dominate the inland and coastal areas in the morning hours, except in Lagos, where misty conditions are expected.
Later in the day, localized thunderstorms accompanied by light rain are anticipated in parts of Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States.On Thursday, the northern region is expected to continue experiencing slight dust haze. Similarly, the North Central region will see a continuation of slight dust haze conditions.
In the southern region, a sunny atmosphere with patches of clouds is expected in the inland and coastal cities during the morning hours. However, misty conditions are likely in Bayelsa and Delta States.
As the day progresses, localized thunderstorms with light rain are forecasted over Lagos, Rivers, Delta, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States.The weather outlook for Friday indicates a sunny atmosphere in the northern region.
The North Central region will also experience sunny weather, accompanied by patches of clouds.
In the southern region, the morning hours will bring cloudy conditions over the inland and coastal cities. Later in the afternoon and evening, localized thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected in parts of Edo, Delta, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States.
NiMet has issued advisories urging the public to take precautions against the potential health impacts of dust particles suspended in the atmosphere. Individuals with asthma and other respiratory conditions are advised to be particularly cautious.
The agency also called on airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports for effective flight planning.
As the weather conditions evolve, NiMet’s forecast underscores the need for preparedness and adherence to safety recommendations, particularly for vulnerable groups and sectors reliant on accurate meteorological data.
