NiMet forecasts 3-day thunderstorms from Thursday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thunderstorms across the country from Thursday to Saturday.

In a weather outlook released on Wednesday, NiMet predicted that thunderstorms would occur primarily in the northern region on Thursday morning.

Specifically, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Taraba, Adamawa, and Kaduna states in the morning, with more thunderstorms later in the day across areas such as Zamfara, Gombe, Bauchi, Kebbi, and additional parts of Kaduna, Taraba, and Adamawa.

In the North Central region, NiMet forecast morning thunderstorms in parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Niger, Plateau, Nasarawa, Kogi, Kwara, and Benue States. Thunderstorms are also anticipated in most areas of the region later in the day.

For the southern region, morning thunderstorms are expected over parts of Ebonyi and Enugu States, with widespread thunderstorms later in the day throughout the region.On Friday, thunderstorms are predicted to continue in the northern region, particularly over Taraba State in the morning, with additional storms expected in Kaduna, Kebbi, Taraba, and Adamawa States during the afternoon and evening hours.

In North Central Nigeria, morning thunderstorms are forecast over parts of the FCT, Niger, Kwara, Benue, and Nasarawa States, with more storms later in the day across much of the region.

In the southern part of the country, thunderstorms are expected in the morning over Abia, Imo, Enugu, Oyo, Ebonyi, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States, with widespread thunderstorms continuing throughout the day.

For Saturday, NiMet forecast morning thunderstorms in the northern region, particularly over Taraba and Adamawa States, with further storms expected later in the day in Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, Taraba, and Adamawa States.In North Central, thunderstorms are predicted during the morning in the FCT, Niger, Kwara, Benue, and Nasarawa States, with additional storms expected over Plateau and Nasarawa States later in the day.

In the southern region, thunderstorms are likely throughout most areas during both morning and evening hours.NiMet also warned of the potential for urban flooding in major cities due to heavy rainfall.

The public is advised to avoid flood-prone areas and to heed safety warnings from authorities. Strong winds may precede thunderstorms in affected areas, and airline operators are encouraged to seek updated weather information from NiMet for safe and effective planning.
