Minimum Wage: NASS to Receive New Bill Tuesday as Tinubu and Labour Agree on N70,000 Increase

On Tuesday, the National Assembly is set to receive an executive bill proposing a new national minimum wage. This follows a deal between President Bola Tinubu and labour leaders concerning increased worker salaries.

During a meeting at the Aso Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday, President Tinubu, along with Joe Ajaero of the Nigeria Labour Congress and Festus Osifo of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, reached an agreement on raising the national minimum wage to N70,000.

The new wage will take over from the N30,000 minimum wage that ended on April 18, 2024.

To ensure the agreement is legally binding before it goes into effect, Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, informed one of our reporters that the legislators will receive the executive bill for the updated minimum wage by Tuesday.

He said, “The minimum wage will reach the National Assembly by Tuesday. He (President Tinubu) told labour in the meeting that it will be ready by Tuesday.”
