Law enforcement officers have been sent to recover the 20 medical students who were kidnapped on Thursday evening along the Otukpo-Otukpa-Enugu Road, according to information obtained by Saturday PUNCH.
In a conversation with our correspondent on Friday, the spokesperson for the state command, SP Catherine Anene, stated that the command, in collaboration with other security agencies, had dispatched personnel to secure the release of the abducted medical students.
She said, “Yes, we have deployed officers to rescue the abducted medical students. It is definitely a joint force; police in collaboration with other security agencies were deployed.”
Anene further mentioned that the medical students were kidnapped near Ojano village, which is situated along the Otukpo/Otukpa/Enugu Road.
Ojano is approximately a 20-minute drive from Otukpo town, situated along the Otukpo/Otukpa/Enugu Road.
The region, especially the Otukpo/Otukpa stretch of the federal highway, is infamous for criminal activities.
Notable individuals, such as former local government chairmen, priests, the Rector of Benue State Polytechnic, and other travellers, have been kidnapped along this road at various times, even with a significant security presence in the area.
