Nigeria supplies Togo, Benin, Niger 24-hour electricity – TCN CEO

The CEO of TCN, Sule Abdulaziz says Nigeria supplies 24-hour electricity to Niger Republic, Togo and Benin Republic

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Sule Abdulaziz has revealed that the country supplies 24-hour electricity to neighbouring West African countries such as Niger Republic, Togo and Benin Republic.

Abdulaziz made this revelation which has left Nigerians in absolute shock on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics programme.

This is because Nigeria as a nation cannot even boast of a regular supply of power but Abdulaziz said that electricity is constant in fellow West African countries such as Niger, Togo and Benin.

“We supply power to Togo, Benin and Niger. We supply them power consistently. They get power from Nigeria on 24-hour basis and they are paying,” Abdulaziz said.

He, however, pointed out that Nigerians know there has been an improvement in power supply in recent times.

“Nigerians are getting 24-hour electricity supply but not everybody. Those people in Band A, you will see that they get 20-22 hours.

“Some Nigerians are getting 24-hours because every electricity distribution company has Band A and that is their priority.”

TCN, meanwhile, earlier stated that the national grid experienced a temporary disturbance at about 8:15am on Saturday, October 19. 2024.

According to the report from the NCC, the bus section of a current transformer exploded at 330kV Jebba Transmission Substation and as expected, the protection system was activated and this promptly opened the busbars to curtail the explosion, thereby, preventing the outbreak of fire and further damage to adjacent equipment.

TCN in a statement added that the action of the protection system led to a temporary disturbance on the grid.

The General Manager (GM), Public Affairs of TCN, Ndidi Mbah said that the company’s engineers have successfully carried out switchings, isolating the faulty current transformer.

“They have equally reconfigured the busbar arrangement, restoring power supply to the station and other parts of the grid,” Mbah said.
