The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has uncovered a plot by malicious actors to target car owners, landlords, and smartphone users during the planned ‘EndBadGovernance’ protest scheduled for next month.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, made the announcement at a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, cautioning people to avoid any form of violence during the protest.
Buba said that unscrupulous elements aim to hijack the demonstration, targeting individuals based on their possessions, such as cars, shops, houses, and even air conditioning.
“Already, we have detected some unscrupulous elements bent on hijacking the planned protest to make it violent. Many are therefore following in ignorance,” Buba said.
“For instance, there are indications that if you possess a smartphone, if you possess a car, if you possess a shop, if you own a house or even use air conditioning in your house, you have been labelled a target.”
He stated that the organiser of the nationwide protest seems to be emulating the violent demonstrations in Kenya, which remain unresolved.
Buba added that the level of violence being envisaged can only be described as a stage for anarchy, noting that the Armed Forces, on its part, will not stand by and allow anarchy to befall the country.
