Israel’s army chief, Herzi Halevi, has indicated that the military is preparing for a potential ground invasion in Lebanon.
According to a CNN report, Halevi informed troops on Wednesday that recent airstrikes targeting Hezbollah infrastructure in Lebanon were designed to clear the way for Israeli forces to operate on the ground.
The aim of the invasion, Halevi stated, is to enable the return of tens of thousands of Israelis displaced by cross-border fire in the northern regions. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu echoed this sentiment, saying that Israel “will not rest” until northern residents can return home safely.
Ori Gordin, Israel’s top general in the north, emphasized the need for the military to be fully prepared for ground maneuvers. In response to the ongoing conflict with Hezbollah, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) also announced the mobilization of two reserve brigades.
