In a formidable crackdown on illicit drug cultivation, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has declared the destruction of 10,534.78 kilograms of cannabis, commonly referred to as marijuana, grown on 4.213912 hectares of farmland in Edo State. This operation signifies a pivotal victory in the relentless war against drug trafficking and cultivation in Nigeria.

NDLEA spokesman, Mr. Femi Babafemi, revealed on Sunday in Abuja that the targeted farm was nestled in the dense Uhen forest, within the Ovia North East Local Government Area. The decisive operation, executed on Wednesday, June 12, resulted in the apprehension of four suspects allegedly involved in the illegal enterprise.

The detained individuals, identified as Frank Ishoku, 38; Clifford Ossai, 49; Vanger Timothy, 30; and John Oluwaseyi, 30, are now in custody. Additionally, operatives confiscated 16 kilograms of processed cannabis, which will serve as critical evidence in prosecuting the suspects.

Further amplifying this significant bust, Babafemi disclosed that NDLEA operatives eradicated 18,425 kilograms of cannabis from a 7.37-hectare farm. These actions underscore the agency’s unwavering commitment to dismantling drug networks and curtailing the supply of psychoactive substances in the region.

The NDLEA’s endeavors were bolstered by essential support from personnel of allied security agencies, who assisted in navigating and executing operations in the challenging terrain of Ise Ekiti’s thick forests on Friday. This collaborative effort highlights the vital importance of inter-agency cooperation in combating drug-related crimes.

As the NDLEA intensifies its operations nationwide, this recent triumph in Edo State stands as a testament to the agency’s steadfast commitment to forging a drug-free Nigeria.
