Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State and the Minister of Works, David Umahi have thanked the South Easterners for not joining the nationwide protest

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State and the Minister of Works, David Umahi have thanked the South Easterners for not joining the nationwide protest.

Mbah disclosed this in a post he shared on his X account on Sunday night after he and Umahi went on an inspection tour of various road projects in Enugu State.

“Today, during an inspection tour of various road projects on the Enugu-Onitsha, Enugu-Abakaliki, and Enugu-Port Harcourt expressways, Engr. David Umahi, the Minister of Works and I took the opportunity to express our gratitude to the South Easterners for heeding the call not to join the August nationwide protests,” Mbah wrote.

“By choosing not to protest, we have prevented the needless loss of lives, businesses, and property and demonstrated good faith towards the President Bola Tinubu administration.”

He said while the immediate effects of government policies may not always be visible, he is assuring Nigerians that these reforms are well-intentioned.

Mbah added that with a little more patience, the citizens will begin to see the value of such policies.

“Let us stay focused, work hard and remember that if we destroy our assets, we will still need to use our common wealth to rebuild them,” Mbah stated.

“Indeed, there is no reason for us to protest as our region now holds key positions at the federal level.

“A new wave of development is emerging in the South East and we should embrace this progress together.”

The nationwide protest which started on Thursday, August 1, 2024 enters it’s fifth day today with the organizers saying it will last for 10 days.
