Lagos govt begs youths to join military

The Lagos State Government has urged young people to consider joining the military.

Mrs. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, the Secretary to the State Government, made this appeal during a quarterly meeting with the Chairman and members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Ikeja on Wednesday.

She emphasized that national security is a shared responsibility, and serving in the military is a vital service to both the state and the country.

Salu-Hundeyin expressed concern that many indigenous youths from Lagos have not been enrolling in the military, as observed in the recent recruitment drive.

She explained that the Federal Government has allocated 150 recruitment slots per state for the military, but Lagos has been underrepresented due to a lack of interest among its youths.

She urged young people from the state not to miss this opportunity.

“The military is essential to ensuring national security, and this responsibility belongs to everyone,” she said.

“While not everyone can wear the uniform, the government provides opportunities for those interested.

Sadly, many youths in Lagos don’t see the need to join the military, which puts the state at a disadvantage in terms of representation.

”Salu-Hundeyin stressed the importance of Lagos participating fully in military recruitment, noting that if the state’s youth do not step up, it would continue to miss out on opportunities for service and representation.
