Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, SAN, has publicly criticized Royal Air Maroc, a Moroccan airline, for allegedly mistreating Nigerian passengers stranded in Morocco.
According to the Minister, the flight had originally departed from Casablanca, bound for Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, but was forced to make an emergency landing in Marrakesh due to technical issues.
Keyamo expressed frustration over the way the airline handled the situation, accusing Royal Air Maroc of abandoning the passengers, most of whom were Nigerians.
He highlighted that the airline failed to provide the stranded passengers with basic necessities such as food and shelter.
As a result, many of them, including women and children, were left to sleep on the floor in the terminal.
Taking to his official X handle, the Minister wrote, “I have just been informed of the inhuman treatment some Nigerians have been subjected to by ROYAL AIR MAROC @RAM_Maroc in Marrakesh, Morocco.
” He went on to describe the dire conditions the passengers were facing, emphasizing that they had been left without any care, food, or adequate shelter, with vulnerable groups like women and children forced to sleep on the terminal floor.
In response to the situation, Keyamo called on Royal Air Maroc to immediately address the issue and take steps to provide relief to the affected passengers.
Additionally, he instructed the Consumer Protection Department of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to urgently engage with Royal Air Maroc’s Nigerian office (@royalairmarocng) to ensure that immediate assistance is given to the stranded Nigerians.
