Internet for All: Nigerian Government Targets Underserved Communities
In a move that could potentially revolutionize internet accessibility in Nigeria, the Nigerian government, through the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT), has entered into a groundbreaking partnership with private companies specializing in rural connectivity solutions.
This strategic collaboration aims to provide reliable and affordable internet services, especially in underserved communities across the country. This move is expected to bridge the digital divide and unlock new opportunities for socioeconomic development in these areas.
According to Aisha Bantam, NIGCOMSAT’s Assistant General Manager for Corporate Affairs, NIGCOMSAT and the private entities will combine their strengths to deploy innovative connectivity solutions and cutting-edge satellite technology to connect remote and rural areas that have traditionally lacked access to internet connectivity.
The collaboration is expected to empower communities and improve the lives of Nigerians, especially those in underserved regions. The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NIGCOMSAT Limited, Mrs. Jane Nkechi Egerton-Idehen, explained that this collaboration with Hotspot highlights their dedication to connect the unconnected and ensure that no community is left behind in the digital age.
