Governor of Kogi State Swears in Newly Elected LG Chairmen
Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, has inaugurated the newly elected chairmen and vice chairmen of the state’s 21 local government areas, urging them to remain committed to serving their communities.
This was disclosed by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismaila Isah, in a statement released on Monday in Lokoja.
He mentioned that the swearing-in took place at the government house in Lokoja.
The governor encouraged the newly appointed officials to maintain the momentum of development at the grassroots level by initiating projects and programs that will enhance the well-being of the people.
He urged the newly appointed local government chairmen to prioritize the safety of lives and property, while aligning with the administration’s key programs in health, agriculture, social welfare, and empowerment initiatives, to improve the lives of people in their respective local government areas.
Ododo said, “There is a need for you to be transparent and accountable in running the affairs of the local government. You must see your election as an opportunity to justify the autonomy of the local government administration by according priorities to matters that have a direct positive impact on the lives of the people at the grassroots.”
The governor, who highlighted the significance of local government as the most vital and closest level of governance to the people, urged the newly appointed council chairmen to involve the public in all their activities and ensure the inclusion of all stakeholders in decision-making processes.
He emphasized that local government should not only be visible but also have a tangible impact on the people, aligning with his administration’s goal to bring governance closer to the citizens.
In response, the chairman of Yagba West Local Government Area, Tosin Olokun, speaking on behalf of the 21 local government chairmen, reaffirmed their dedication to supporting the state’s efforts by initiating projects and programs that would improve the lives of those at the grassroots level.
He also pledged to unite the people, regardless of political affiliations, in line with Governor Ododo’s agenda of fostering unity and focusing on the state’s development.
