Four Bloggers Re-Arraigned in GTCO CEO Cyberstalking Case

On Monday, the police brought four bloggers—Precious Eze, Olawale Rotimi, Rowland Olonishuwa, and Seun Odunlami—before the Federal High Court in Lagos on new charges for allegedly engaging in cyberstalking and disseminating false information about Guaranty Trust Holding Company (GTCO) via various social media platforms.

The accused individuals are facing ten charges, including conspiracy, cyberstalking, publishing false and misleading information, extortion, making threats, and causing a decline in shares and market value, as outlined by the police.

Previously, on September 27, 2024, the defendants were charged with two counts of cyberstalking and making false statements aimed at defaming the CEO of GTCO, Segun Agbaje.

Following their pleas, Justice Ayokunle Faji ordered that the defendants be held at the Correctional Centre.

The defendants are facing new allegations of intentionally disseminating false, deceptive, and unfounded claims on multiple social media platforms against GTCO, its leadership, the Central Bank of Nigeria, and the entire Nigerian banking sector, with the intent to incite chaos.

Additionally, the prosecutor indicated that these claims were designed to tarnish GTCO’s reputation and were employed as a strategy to extort the company.
