At least five people have reportedly died after attending a feast at a church in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
Several worshippers who consumed the food during the event were later admitted to the Infectious Disease Centre in the Olodo area of the city.
The incident occurred the previous Sunday, and sources revealed that many attendees partook in the meal prepared for the celebration.
It is reported that five individuals passed away after consuming the food.Around 50 worshippers who also ate the food were hospitalized but have since been discharged from the Infectious Disease Centre as of Saturday.
The feast was part of traditional church activities, in line with its doctrine, but it remains unclear whether the food caused the deaths.
The state ministry of health and other relevant authorities have been informed, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause.
The Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, Adewale Osifeso, confirmed that an inquiry has begun and promised further updates. “Investigation is ongoing. Updates will be provided accordingly,” Osifeso stated.
