Galatasaray’s star striker Victor Osimhen has ruled out the possibility of a January move to Chelsea, asserting his commitment to the Turkish club until the end of the season.
The Nigerian international is currently spending the 2024/25 season on loan at Galatasaray from his parent club, Napoli, after summer negotiations between Chelsea and Napoli failed to materialize into a transfer.
During the summer window, Chelsea had been actively pursuing Osimhen, viewing the dynamic forward as a key addition to their squad.
Talks between Chelsea and Napoli reached an advanced stage in the closing days of the transfer period, with both clubs eager to find common ground.
However, disagreements on various aspects of the deal prevented the transfer from being finalized. As Chelsea’s interest cooled, Osimhen ultimately joined Galatasaray on a season-long loan, seizing the opportunity to gain more playing time and experience in the Turkish Super Lig.
Although Osimhen’s loan contract includes a break clause that would enable him to explore other opportunities during the January window, he has been vocal about his desire to remain in Istanbul.
The clause, which allows top European clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool to trigger his departure from Galatasaray, was initially intended to provide flexibility for the talented forward should an attractive offer arise.
However, Osimhen appears content with his current situation and is focused on helping Galatasaray achieve their objectives for the season.
Following a recent Europa League match in which Napoli faced Tottenham, Osimhen addressed the growing speculation surrounding his future.
He took the opportunity to clarify his stance and reiterated his commitment to Galatasaray for the remainder of the season.
“I have seen all the speculation linking me with a move away in January,” Osimhen stated. “I want to make it clear that I intend to stay here until the season ends.
I’m really enjoying my time at Galatasaray and am happy with the team and the city.”Osimhen went on to acknowledge that discussions between Napoli and Galatasaray could potentially lead to new terms or conditions but emphasized that he remains focused on his current role.
“If Galatasaray or Napoli come to me with new terms, I would consider them, of course,” he added. “But for now, my focus is here. I feel settled in Istanbul, and I’m excited to contribute to Galatasaray’s success.
”The striker’s commitment is welcome news for Galatasaray fans, who have been thrilled by his performances.
Known for his agility, speed, and finishing ability, Osimhen has quickly become a favorite among supporters and an essential asset for the team. His decision to stay until the season’s end will allow Galatasaray to continue building on their ambitions in both domestic and European competitions.
For Chelsea and other interested clubs, Osimhen’s statement indicates that any potential move will have to wait until next summer. Meanwhile, Galatasaray can look forward to a full season with one of Europe’s brightest striking talents leading their attack.
