General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), has launched a collaborative monitoring unit to supervise current military actions in the South-South region.
On Wednesday, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Director of Defence Information, detailed the team’s mission to enhance the effectiveness of military and security forces in the oil-rich region.
The statement read, “The CDS emphasised that the monitoring teams’ primary role is to enhance military and security operations in the region. Their objective is to assess performance and report back to commanders for improvement. He noted the collaboration between the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies, which has significantly boosted daily oil production.”
Gusau mentioned that the Chief of Defence Staff encouraged the team to strive for boosting Nigeria’s daily oil output to 2.2 million barrels.
The team is anticipated to collaborate with the Joint Task Force, South-South Operation DELTA SAFE, various security agencies, and oil sector stakeholders to guarantee seamless operations.
“The team is aware of the mandate given by President Bola Tinubu to increase oil production to 2.2 million barrels per day by December. Securing critical national infrastructure and collaborating with oil companies to maximise production are essential to this task,” the statement continued.
The leader of the Defence Monitoring Team, Major General Jamiu Jimoh, recognized the backing provided by the troops and various security forces in the area. He promised that the team would exert every effort to meet the goal of producing 2.2 million barrels daily.
