Bayer Leverkusen manager, Xabi Alonso, has announced that striker Victor Boniface will miss the club’s upcoming UEFA Champions League match against Brest following a serious car accident on Sunday morning.
The Nigerian forward, who sustained minor injuries in the crash, has been unable to train with his teammates since the incident.
Despite his physical condition improving, Alonso explained that Boniface is not yet emotionally prepared for the match.
“He’s not part of the squad. After what happened, we’re taking a precautionary approach,” Alonso said during a press conference.
“He has a small wound on his hand and a cut on his right foot, but the emotional impact of the accident is greater.
“The coach added, “Physically, he’s doing better, but emotionally he’s not ready. He feels fine but needs more time to fully recover.”
