CAF unveils AFCON 2025 host cities

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially revealed the host cities for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be held in Morocco,Wavenewsng can authoritatively report.

This announcement comes after the tournament was originally set to take place in Guinea, but the West African nation was stripped of its hosting rights.

Morocco, a powerhouse in African football and no stranger to organizing major sporting events, has been given the green light to stage the continent’s most prestigious football competition.

The decision to award Morocco the hosting duties was met with enthusiasm across the football community, as the nation has a strong infrastructure and a proven track record in hosting international tournaments.

CAF confirmed that six cities across Morocco will be the venues for AFCON 2025.

These cities include Casablanca, a bustling metropolis and Morocco’s largest city; Fes, known for its rich history and cultural significance; Marrakech, a popular tourist destination famous for its vibrant atmosphere; Tangier, a city strategically located near the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts; Rabat, the capital city with a blend of modernity and tradition; and Agadir, a scenic coastal city known for its beaches and resorts.

In a significant change, the competition, which is typically held in the middle of the year, has been rescheduled to take place in December 2025 and January 2026.

This shift was largely influenced by the newly expanded 32-team format of the FIFA Club World Cup, which also takes place during the same period.

The overlap necessitated the adjustment of the AFCON dates, ensuring that both tournaments could be successfully accommodated in the global football calendar.

Morocco’s selection as the host for AFCON 2025 marks a key moment in African football, and the six cities chosen to host matches will showcase not only top-tier football but also the nation’s diverse culture and landscapes.

Fans across the continent and around the world are eagerly anticipating this edition of AFCON, as it promises to be one of the most memorable in the tournament’s rich history.
