CAF CL: How Enyimba secured group ticket in Burkina Faso – Coach Olarenwaju

Yemi Olanrewaju remarked that Enyimba were fortunate to secure a place in the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The two-time African champions triumphed over Burkina Faso’s Etoile Filante, winning 3-2 on penalties in their second preliminary round match on Sunday, after both legs ended in a 0-0 draw.

Despite several opportunities to clinch victory in regulation time at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Enyimba failed to capitalize. Olanrewaju emphasized that his players need to improve their performance in the group stage.

“I wish we had finished the game before penalties, given the chances we missed.

We were lucky to escape, and we can’t continue like this in the next round.

If we want to progress to the quarter-finals, we must take our chances,” he said.

“There was some anxiety among the players, and they rushed things, especially in the final third. We are fortunate to have advanced to the group stage,” Olanrewaju concluded.
