A recent flood in Borno State has not only devastated the community but also threatened the local museum park, as deadly wildlife animals like crocodiles and snakes have been washed away from the park into residential areas.
The Alau Dam reportedly collapsed on Tuesday after being at full capacity for weeks, affecting communities in Fori, Galtimari, Gwange, and Bulabulin.
The flood disaster reportedly disrupted and damaged property, resulting in the deaths of more than 80% of the animals. A viral video on social media showed submerged streets, homes, and flyovers, as many residents fled their homes after a devastating flood in Maiduguri, the state capital.
The local museum general manager, Ali Abatcha Don Best, disclosed this in a statement titled “Flood Sweeps Through Borno State Museum Park, Endangering Animals.”
Ali Abatcha Don Best, however, warned the resident to be vigilant and take necessary precautions to avoid encounters with these dangerous animals.
His statement read, “The General manager of the Borno state museum pack wish to announce that the recent flood disaster has disrupted and causes a damage to properties and loss of lives of more than 80% of the animals.
“In this devastating period of flood disaster, The General manager wish to also announce that some deadly animals has been washed away into our communities, animals like crocodiles and snakes, he called on the attention of the General public to be aware and take all the necessary precautions measures to avoid these animals.
“With regret, sense of concern and responsibility, The General manager wish to ensure safety and protection for the remaining living things within his jurisdiction.
“Lastly, He prayed for a quick relief from Almighty Allah and called all citizens to pray and turn back to Almighty Allah.”
