ASUU, FG meeting called-off

The leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU) and the Federal Government of Nigeria has postponed the meeting earlier scheduled for Monday, August 26, 2024.

It was gathered that the meeting was scheduled to address all unresolved matters concerning the lecturer’s union.

However, in a new development, the President of ASUU, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, told newsmen on Monday, that the meeting will no longer hold as earlier announced by the Minister of Education, Prof Tahir Mamman.

Although no reason was given for the postponement, the meeting is now expected to be held on Wednesday, August 28.

It would be recalled that ASUU, a few days ago, issued a 21-day notice of strike to the Federal Government over several unresolved issues, notably, emergency revitalization fund of public universities, payment of outstanding earned academic allowances; and release of withheld salaries, promotion arrears, and third-party deductions from its members.

Other issues mentioned by ASUU include the stoppage of illegal recruitments, the proliferation of public universities/abuse of universities’ laws, regulations, and processes, and removal of universities from the treasury single account as well as new IPPIS vis-a-vis to herald the autonomy of the universities
