AFCON 2025: Rangers’ Ilechukwu appointed Super Eagles assistant coach

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced the appointment of Fidelis Ilechukwu, the head coach of Rangers, as one of the assistant coaches to Augustine Eguavoen, the caretaker coach of the Super Eagles.

Ilechukwu’s appointment was confirmed on Monday, recognizing his impressive achievements, including leading Rangers to their eighth Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title last season.

Ilechukwu, a seasoned coach with experience at the U-23 level, will work alongside Daniel Ogunmodede, the Remo Stars coach, as an assistant to Eguavoen.

The trio will prepare the Super Eagles for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.

Eguavoen will take temporary charge of the team for these crucial matches, with Ilechukwu and Ogunmodede providing valuable support and expertise. The Super Eagles will face Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Saturday and then travel to Kigali to play Rwanda at the Amahoro Stadium next Tuesday.

Ilechukwu’s appointment is a testament to his coaching prowess, and his experience working with young players will be an asset to the Super Eagles. With his assistance, the team aims to secure crucial victories in these qualifiers.
