12.5kg cooking gas price records 69% increase in August average cost of refilling a 12.5-kilogram cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) increased by 69 percent in 2024, rising to N15,552.56 from N9,194.41 during the same period in 2023.
On a month-to-month basis, the price rose by 9.5 percent, from N14,261.57 in July to N15,552.56 in August 2024, according to the National Bureau of Statistics’ LPG price watch for August.
Rivers State recorded the highest average price for refilling a 12.5kg LPG cylinder at N17,086.36, followed by Cross River (N17,050.00) and Abia (N17,012.52).
Bauchi had the lowest average price at N13,425.00, followed by Nasarawa (N13,640.94) and Adamawa (N13,725.00).
This steady increase in LPG prices adds to the financial burden on Nigerians, as the country’s inflation rates stood at 32.15 percent for headline inflation and 37.52 percent for food inflation in August, as reported by the NBS.
