The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has urged Nigerians to update their meters before November 2024.
NERC gave this advice in a statement the commission shared on its X account on Tuesday morning.
The commission issued a warning to Nigerians that they may not be able to recharge their meters without updating.
“Have you updated your meter yet? From November 2024, you may not be able to recharge your meter without updating,” it said.
It added in the statement that updating of electricity meters is, however, easy and free.
According to NERC, distribution companies (DisCos) have already commenced issuance of two free Key Change Tokens (KCTs) which will update their meters.
“The update will not affect the units in your meter, nor will it make your meter run faster than usual,” the commission explained.
It further directed the public to contact their respective DisCos for more information on meter update.
