The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has launched a crucial Program Management Review (PMR) with United States officials and Bell Textron Company, marking a pivotal moment in the progress of delivering AH-1Z attack helicopters to the nation.
AVM Edward Gabkwet, NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, disclosed this impactful development in Abuja on Tuesday.
Gabkwet underscored that the meeting was convened following a relentless commitment from US counterparts regarding the timely delivery of the AH-1Z helicopters purchased by Nigeria’s government.
He emphasized that US officials reaffirmed their commitment during discussions led by Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, represented by AVM Sayo Olatunde, Chief of Policy and Plans, alongside representatives of the US Government and Bell Textron Company.
Gabkwet elaborated that the 5-day session, initiated at NAF Headquarters on Tuesday, primarily focuses on reviewing manufacturing progress, ensuring seamless integration, and providing critical technical guidance to enhance operational readiness.
“This collaboration demonstrates the assurance and strong partnership between Nigeria and the US in enhancing the country’s air power capabilities,” he mentioned.
During the meeting, AVM Olatunde passionately emphasized that the PMR session marks a critical milestone in the imminent arrival of fighter helicopters, crucially augmenting NAF’s ability to strike fiercely from the skies and on the ground, driving forward its journey towards modernization.
He further asserted that the AH-1Z Helicopters, upon integration into NAF’s arsenal, will significantly amplify its combat strength and operational prowess, especially in relentless battles against terrorism and insurgency.
