Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris has debunked a report where he was alleged to have said that the Federal Government (FG) gave each state governor N570 billion.
Idris refuted the report on Saturday in a statement he shared on his X account, saying that he never said that at anytime.”
At no time did I say that State Governors received N570 Billion each from the Federal Government,” the minister said.
“What the states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) collectively received in reimbursements between the end of 2023 and July 2024, under the World Bank-supported #NGCARES program, is a total of N573 Billion Naira, as follows: N135.4B in late 2023, and N438.36B last month.
“These numbers are in the public domain, in the spirit of transparency, and should not be the subject of distortion or sensationalism in the media.”
Idris, meanwhile, stated at a press briefing on Saturday that President Bola Tinubu said he is worried over the continuing protests in various parts of Nigeria, expressing the determination of his administration to provide succour and cushion the hardship being faced by the citizens.
President Tinubu’s worry is coming against the backdrop of growing public concern that he has, curiously, kept mute over the protests and other sundry allegations of crackdown against demonstrators.
But in a terse response on the development Saturday, Idris told The Guardian that “the President is concerned about the plight of Nigerians and would do everything to cushion the hardship.” The Minister, however, did not give further details.
