A disaster occurred in the Makwarari neighbourhood of Kano on Friday when a single-story building fell, resulting in the death of 35-year-old Balarabe Tijjani and injuring two of her children.
Reports indicate that the building’s collapse was triggered by heavy rainfall that persisted for several hours from Thursday night into Friday morning.
A local resident reported that the mother and her two children, Abdulnasir and Abdallah, aged 11 and 13 respectively, were rescued and taken to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, but the mother did not survive her injuries.
“After rescuing the victims from the debris, they were transported to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital. Unfortunately, Tijjani succumbed to her injuries while the children are currently receiving treatment,” the resident said.
