Victim confirms receipt of N3m extorted by Police

Kelechi Isaac, a victim of police extortion in Bayelsa State has confirmed the recovery of the N3 million that was forcefully taken from him

A man identified as Kelechi Isaac who was a victim of police extortion in Bayelsa State has confirmed that his N3 million has been returned.

Isaac confirmed the receipt of the N3m in a WhatsApp chat with Premium Times on Friday night.

“They have given me the money. I am just coming in from Bayelsa now,” he said in a WhatsApp message.

“They did (the handover in cash), but after the handover I refused to touch the cash, insisting they get a Point of Sale (PoS) agent to take the cash and transfer it to me, which they did.

The police officers had reportedly extorted
the money from him at gunpoint on August 26, 2024 in the Odi area of Bayelsa State.

Isaac, who is based in Ghana, but hails from Nguru Nworie community in the Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area (LGA) of Imo State has narrated his ordeal in a video.

In the video which went viral, the victim described how five police officers stopped his car while he was driving back home from a marriage ceremony alongside two of his friends.

According to him, the operatives subsequently forced him at gunpoint to transfer the sum of N3m to two separate bank accounts.

The spokesperson of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement last week, confirmed that the officers involved in the extortion had been arrested.

“The policemen involved in this case of extortion of N3 million have been arrested,” Adejobi had announced.
