Rivers approves N85,000 minimum wage for civil servants

The Rivers State Government has approved a new minimum wage of N85,000 for civil servants

The Rivers State Government on Friday approved a new minimum wage of N85,000 for civil servants, matching that of Lagos State.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara approved the new minimum wage which was announced by the Head of Service of Rivers state, George Nwaeke, after a closed-door meeting with labour leaders and senior government officials.

Fubara in a post he shared on his official X account also announced that the new minimum wage comes into effect from November 2024

“We had a fruitful meeting with Labour Leaders in which we agreed on the 85,000 naira minimum wage, effective November 2024. Our workers will be better off for it,” the governor wrote.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, meanwhile, announced a new minimum wage of N85,000 for Lagos State workers on Thursday, with Rivers the only state to match that figure.
