Governor Peter Mbah has ordered the immediate payment of the new N80,000 minimum wage for Enugu State workers.
Mbah gave the order on Thursday after announcing that he had approved the sum of N80,000 with immediate effect.
The governor made the announcement at the Lion Building, while receiving the report of the committee setup to look into the issue in the state.
He said: “Today, I’m happy to announce a new minimum wage for workers in Enugu state, reflecting our fidelity to their welfare in regard to which we’ve been resolutely committed.
“We’ve approved the sum of N80,000 to take immediate effect as the new minimum wage in the state.”
He added that the move hinged on his administration’s believe that the labour is a creator of wealth and if well taken care of, will grow wealth for the state.
